What issues did you have before introducing the laser machine?
The main business activities include the development and manufacturing of the shamisen, a traditional Japanese three-stringed instrument, as well as the operation of shamisen and sanshin classes and recital performances.
In October 1996, we started our business in a small way from a room in our home in Tokyo.
From the very beginning, we were determined to "carry shamisen culture 1,000 years into the future" and have continuously worked on product development through new challenges. Our shamisen classes quickly gained more members, and at the same time, opportunities for recitals increased, leading to smooth and successful growth.
To further differentiate our products, we realized the necessity of establishing our own original brand. However, we faced numerous challenges. Relying on outsourced processing led to major issues in both quality and delivery time, with no solutions in sight. Additionally, one of our subcontracted processing companies ended up shutting down.
The goal of establishing an original brand seemed increasingly out of reach. We faced days of stagnation, unsure of our next steps, and at times, we felt completely lost.

Why introduce the GCC LaserPro laser machine
The decision to consider introducing a laser engraving machine was prompted by a recommendation from a trusted dealer we had been working with at the time. Although we had no prior experience operating a laser engraving machine, we were already familiar with the quality of outsourced laser processing, which gave us the confidence to move forward with in-house production.
One of the key reasons we chose the GCC LaserPro C180II laser engraver from COMNET Services was their excellent support system and demonstration services.
When we were considering the purchase, the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to visit and inspect the actual machine in person. However, they provided an online demonstration, which allowed us to get a good sense of its capabilities.
After one year of operation, the machine has been running smoothly without any issues. Initially, setting the correct conditions was challenging, but we have become familiar with the values over time. Customer support has provided reliable solutions whenever uncertainties arise, particularly through remote support, which feels as effective as an on-site visit. Their clear understanding of our situation always results in precise advice and easy-to-understand real-time guidance.

What results follow laser machine installation?
We apply C180II laser engraving to parts of our shamisen. Thanks to this, our sales have increased by 1.5 to 2 times compared to the previous year, and our membership numbers continue to rise rapidly.
By engraving our company’s logo on each shamisen, which is carefully handcrafted with great dedication, we have developed an even stronger attachment to our products.
We have transitioned from outsourcing to in-house production, yet the quality of our products remains consistently stable. Now, we can quickly create prototypes, present them to customers, and immediately gauge their reactions. This shift has also enabled us to respond to a wide range of needs.

What are your prospects for the laser business
The shamisen is a traditional instrument, yet it is also being incorporated into new music genres and styles. Artists are exploring innovative ways to express themselves while respecting traditional playing techniques. As a result, the possibilities of the shamisen continue to expand, giving rise to new forms of music.
The Shamisen is a traditional Japanese instrument crafted from precious natural resources such as rosewood and karin wood. Its unique sound allows us to express nature's essence and share the beauty of Japanese culture. As an important performing art, the shamisen provides joy to many, and we aim to preserve its legacy for future generations. Our goal is to continue crafting unique shamisen, share Japanese culture with the world, and create the world's first shamisen music notation.
With the introduction of a laser engraving machine, we have been able to bring production in-house and meet a wide range of demands. We hope to share Japanese culture through the shamisen, not only with people in Japan but also with visitors from around the world. In the future, we plan to introduce a second laser machine to further strengthen our production capabilities.
